Interview — Michael Louis Vinci

Skratch Magazine

Singer/songwriter Michael Louis Vinci hails from the windy city where he makes acoustic chill-happy-core music from Chicago’s Suburbs. He is currently in the studio putting together his latest album, Michael Luis Vinci Goes to Town, and getting ready for a summer tour with fellow musician Snow n’ Charm.

Skratch: How long have you been playing music:

MV: I guess I've been playing music 8 years.

Skratch: What spurs your songwriting?

MV: Well I cannot just say, "Ok, I want to write a song." It happens more when I'm practicing. It just kind of happens.

Skratch: Many artists get emotional or passionate about certain topics? What gets you going?

MV: LIFE. Taking what you have and being happy with it. I like to say just be happy with yourself and what feels right for you. So basically I write about things that I experience and witness.

Skratch: What in your music, differentiates yourselves from other bands?

MV: I'm not sure. I mean I'm not really trying to be like anybody but I'm also not trying to be different. I just write what I want when I want.

Skratch: What genre do you describe your band as? What is the funniest description you've heard to date?

MV: I'd describe myself as acoustic lounging music. BUT the funniest I've heard over the years is "YEAH WHATEVA CORE" soooo I dunno.

Skratch: What ice cream flavor best represents the band's overall personality and why? Come on, give us the scoop here!

MV: Spamoni. I don't know why. I just like it a lot. It is 3 flavors of wonderful so I think that's how people should think of me, 3 flavors of wonderful.

Skratch: Lyrically, what are your goals and where is your mind currently?

MV: Currently I feel I have been writing a lot of relationship songs. I don't know why. I mean they just kind of happen. Oh but recently I wrote a song about the life of a raindrop.

Skratch: Do you have a need or desire to be signed in the future? Any candidates or wishlist?

MV: Uhm. I don't know. I know that is most musicians dream is to get signed and live happily ever after. But I have heard some interesting stories. So I would mind getting talked to by some labels and see if we could work anything out. I think a distribution deal would be pretty swell, maybe by Universal. CHYEA!

Skratch: Where are your favorite cities or states to play music in and just to play in?

MV: Actually so far I have just played in Illinois. I love playing in Chicago but all the suburbs are awesome to. I love meeting people and making new friends.

Skratch: What would one expect when seeing your live show?

MV: At a live show people could expect to be talked to by me on and off stage. On stage I like to interact with the crowd and make the music as enjoyable as possible. Especially if I am playing a "bigger stage" with maybe other musicians that are not acoustic acts, I don't want people to get bored during my set.

Skratch: Any magical rituals or beverages before your live show you care to share with us?

MV: I usually drink a lot of water, maybe a hot tea with honey and say a little prayer.

Skratch: Would you ever sell the rights to your music for a commercial or TV show? What's your favorite TV show now?

MV: I think it would be awesome to have my music playing somewhere. I have been saying to a lot of my friends recently that I would LOVE to get on of my songs on like a chick flick or something. OH MAN! Picture that. It is like the ULTIMATE DATE MOVIE. Bring a girl to go see a movie that one of your own songs is in, and be like " Hey, so you hear that song? Ya that's me." Bahahaha.

Skratch: Any special love interests?

MV: Not at the moment. I mean there was Zooey Deschanel, but now she's getting married. There is Rachel McAdams oh and Audrey Hepburn.

Skratch: Last words/final thoughts/Anything you would like readers to know about you?:

MV: So basically I have been writing and recording a bunch of new stuff. Keep checking out my myspace (myspace.com/michaellouisvinci) and I should have my album coming out soon. I really would love if you checked out my good friend Snow n' Charm at (myspace.com/snowandcharm) he just released is self-titled ep which is amazing and he also has a bunch of stuff in the works. ACTUALLY him and I are planning on going on a tour this summer (August) from Illinois-Florida and back. So all yall kids in the states in between them two be sure to be on the look out, and come talk to us. We love to talk. Just check my myspace yo.
