Mother’s Green makes music with no borders. “It’s full of feeling and passion,” says March. March along with Mike and Dean has been making music out of Toronto, Canada for two years. Now you can get an idea of how far borderless music abounds in Mother’s Green interview with Skratch Magazine.
Skratch: How did you become interested in music?
March: Music has always been a part of my life so I can’t imagine a world without music it’s a great feeling that words can’t describe and the older I get the more deeper feelings I have for it .
Skratch: What is your song writing process like?
March: An idea will come or melody or beat and it starts to grow into a song its very exciting to see a melody or beat grow.
Skratch: What artists or musicians inspire you?
March: To be honest I will have to say every musician out there that loves music because if I name one this interview will never end. I listen to all types of music. Its like food, if I like it I will eat it.
Skratch: Where do you take musical inspiration from? Your environment? People? Explain.
March: Well going for a walk going on a road trip or vacation or hangin’ out with loved ones. Lol. Sometimes taking a bath. It’s funny.
Skratch: What is your musical background?
March: Well I am pretty much self taught I have been playing guitar since I was 11 years old and singing pretty much all my life but I never really played in a band and gigged till now.
Skratch: Tell us about how you got started as a band.
March: I started writing songs and performing acoustically looking for musicians to jam with and it took a really long time. Then I got tired of waiting around I really wanted to record these songs so I asked drummer Kevin Correia and bassist Brent Kurvin if they would lay down some drums and bass and they were cool enough to come out and lay them down. Since then I have been playing shows working on a new record and working out a tour.
Skratch: What is the most rewarding part of playing in a band?
March: The most rewarding part is I guess doing what I love doing watching the songs grow and 30-60 minutes jamming on stage that would be the rewarding part.
Skratch: What challenges have you faced as musicians?
March: Well where do I begin trying to book tours with no agent is always funny but it will get done .lack of funding for example we finished recording the first record and had no money to tour but we are working on a new record and working a budget for a tour everything is getting done but its taking long because we don’t have any support from a label and line up changes but I got to say I am pretty fortunate to have jammed with some great musicians
Skratch: What would you say is your best song to date? Why?
March: I honestly can’t say which is our best song because I love them all if I am not feeling a song I won’t record it
Skratch: Do you remember the first album you ever brought? What was it?
March: I grew up around music I use to listen to my family’s records but I think the first record I ever bought was Guns n Roses, Use Your Illusion 1 When I was like 11 years old. I think I paid 12 or 13 dollars for it on cassette and I still have it which is funny because every time I look at it I laugh. My album collection is a lot bigger and wider I got cassettes, vinyl, and CDs
Skratch: Where do you see your band in five years?
March: Still doing what we love to do, either it be jamming at a local bar or touring.
Skratch: Would you say your goals as a band are long term, or short term? What do you ultimately hope to achieve? Explain.
March: We hope to achieve just being able to tour and record music being able to go to a different place every night and jamming for people . so I say the goals would be long term
Skratch: How has your band evolved since when you first formed?
March: Well it started with me being the only member and line up changes like a sports team but I am happy with the current line up and the band has grown musically so I would say we have evolved a lot.
Skratch: How often do you practice? What is your rehearsal time like?
March: Well that’s a real funny question we usually jam 2 or 3 times before a gig and that’s pretty much it you know we practice on our own but that’s how we operate. The other guys are involved in different bands and session work so when we get together its really fresh.
Skratch: What would you say is your band's motto? Explain.
March: Well our motto would be to be free musically don’t be afraid to be free and try new things have love and respect for all things beautiful .
Skratch: What shows/album releases/plans do you currently have set up? Tell us about them
March: We will be heading in the studio to record a new record in December and we are tiring to book a tour its not a question if we will tour it’s a question of when we will tour. We will definitely tour Canada but we would like to go to Europe and US. So if there is any booking agents in California reading this we are available .
Skratch: Where have your preformed? Tell us about the experience:
March: So far we have only performed in Toronto but we are really hungry to tour get up and playing in front of people is great its like sex there’s so much energy.
Skratch: What sets your stage show a part from all the other bands making the rounds at venues?
March: That’s a good question all I can say is that we are honest when we play and you have to check us out and see it for your self.
Skratch: Anything else you think we should know about the band?
March: Check out our new record and if you hear us coming to your town come check us out. We would love to party.
